Expanded opening hours in Shetland

CLAN Cancer Support has expanded its services in Shetland.

CLAN provides a range of services from its centre on St Magnus Street in Lerwick. In response to an increase in requests for information and complementary therapies, the charity has increased the opening hours.

The centre in Lerwick will now be open on a Monday and Friday, 10am to 4pm, and on a Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Thelma Hughson is responsible for overseeing a number of fundraising events across the island as well as playing an integral role in allowing the people of Shetland to have access to the range of free cancer support services the charity currently offers.

Lucy Whiteman, CLAN’s services manager, said: “We’re delighted to be able to increase our provision within Shetland and it really does reinforce our commitment to providing free cancer support services in the heart of the community, to as many people as we can.

“Our range of free services is open to anyone who has been affected by a cancer diagnosis and we really would encourage those who would like to find out more about what it is CLAN can do to drop in or call us – you will be made very welcome.”

As well as the drop-in centre, the charity also holds two support groups; one in Brae on the third Sunday of every month and one in Ness Boating Club on the first Sunday of every month. These groups offer information and support to anyone living with cancer as well as to their family members, carers and close friends. A range of complementary therapies, including reflexology and reiki is offered from its centre in Lerwick.
