Having been a paramedic, the most important thing I was told to have in my kit was a blanket. This is because no matter what, putting a blanket around someone makes them feel like you've got them. This is what Clan has been for me.

I joined Clan as my wife passed away three years ago and she loved going to Clan.
Everyone was so nice and helpful, and it took her mind of cancer for a few hours. And all the therapies she received helped as well. So I decided to help Clan as a driver, support worker, and also a fundraiser.
- Fundraiser
A friend suggested visiting Clan for a bit of extra support from people who truly understand the ongoing impact a cancer diagnosis has. Many of the volunteers there have experienced it themselves. They know it’s not just dealing with surgery and treatment. They know that it takes time to come to terms with a challenging new reality. And they know the things that can help people to cope.
For some people that comes with meeting people in a similar emotional or psychological place. For some it comes with having someone to talk to. For others it comes in different ways. For me, I realised that the alternative therapies offered by Clan might help me with things like sleep and pain management. There are various different alternative therapies available and after talking to one of the wonderful volunteers, we thought Reiki might be the best option for me.
I have now had three sessions of Reiki and can honestly say it’s been transformative. I have no idea how it works (I don’t know how the internal combustion engine works either but that that doesn’t stop me driving!) but it has genuinely made a huge difference. My sleep has improved, the pain is now a side show instead of the main event, I enjoy food again, I have more energy and I’m looking forward to life instead of feeling anxious about what might lie ahead. Remarkable after only 3 sessions!
I am truly grateful for the surgery that saved my life. And I’m just as grateful for the Reiki that has helped to give back my quality of life.

Whether you’re a Clan service user, fundraiser, volunteer or friend of a friend, we want to hear from you.
Why we need your support
We are the longest standing commercially independent cancer support charity in the North of Scotland, and all of our services are sustained by fundraising. That means, we rely on the invaluable support of people from all walks of life, ages and experiences - from major donations, to fundraising campaigns, to volunteers and retail customers.

35% of our client referrals in 2024-2025 came from the NHS. Clan is a key partner of the NHS and provides credible services (including NHS-aligned complementary therapies) to support anyone undergoing medical treatments for their diagnosis.
Regardless of how or why you’ve donated, if you’ve left your details with us, we will be in touch by post or email to say thank you. If you don’t hear from us, contact us on [email protected] so we can rectify that – we love thanking our donors and it’s important to us that our supporters get the recognition they deserve!
Gift Aid is a UK tax relief scheme that lets charities increase the value of donations at no extra cost to you. If you’re a UK taxpayer, we can claim back the tax you’ve already paid, boosting your donation by 25%. That means every £1 you give becomes £1.25—so a £10 donation becomes £12.50, without costing you a penny more.
However, it’s important to note that if you’re hosting a fundraising event it’s unlikely we can claim Gift Aid on any funds raised. As a very general rule Gift Aid applies to one-off donations from a specific individual.
If you consider playing any fundraising games at your event, for example a round of heads and tails with a donation to enter - we can provide you with gift aid envelopes. Guests pop their donations into an envelope and have to fill in some personal details. If that income is kept separate and handed over to us (with the Gift Aid envelopes themselves), we can potentially claim Gift Aid on those specific donations after your event. This does require the gathering of personal data and is a bit of extra work, so we completely understand if you’re not comfortable doing this. We promise you we’re still so grateful for every penny raised.
Absolutely! If you are interested in having any Clan branded collateral at for your fundraiser, please let us know by contacting us at [email protected]. If we have collateral available, and we can get it to you in time for your event, we’d be delighted for you to make use of it.
Depending on your event, we have Clan branded merchandise that we’d be happy to provide to you to sell on our behalf. Anything unsold can be returned to us, so there’s no risk or cost to you.
Also, take a look at some of our download links on this page. There are things there like Clan Bunting, build your own donation house, poster templates and so on, which can help you identify your event in aid of Clan.
