How We Help
Complementary Therapies
Clan are delighted to offer complementary therapies across all of our centres throughout the North East of Scotland and Islands.
NHS Aligned Therapies
Our complementary therapies align with the credible therapies provided by the NHS to ensure a continuation of care in the community, for those with a cancer diagnosis undergoing conventional treatment and anyone else who has been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
We would recommend that you keep your GP and/or consultant advised of any therapies taken. Please note that the range of complementary therapies available varies by location.
Physical and Emotional Support
Clan Cancer Support’s complementary therapies are designed to support and alleviate some of the physical and emotional side effects that come with a client’s cancer journey.
They are available to both the person with a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones, as the strain of this journey can affect everyone involved in different ways.

No our therapies are for those impacted by cancer also which includes close family, friends and carers. It's important for those who are supporting the person with the diagnosis to look after their own wellbeing, whilst supporting their loved one. Caring responsibilities can take it's toll on the physical and emotional wellbeing of those in that role, hence why therapies are available to support someone continue their role in a healthy way.
Therapy appointments are approximately 45 minutes long. The first appointment consists of a short consultation with the therapist and a shorter therapy provision. Therapists are required to keep notes on the treatments and advice they have provided to help inform future therapy sessions.
Clan has a wide range of therapists delivering different types of therapies to different client groups. The therapists who are providing specialist oncology treatments such as oncology, lymphatic drainage and scar tissue massage hold specific oncology training. Our therapists who work with those who do not have the diagnosis themselves are trained and experienced in their therapy type. All Clan therapists are registered, hold a PVG and are fully insured. In addition all Clan therapists undertake Clan's inhouse 2 day Listening and Support training which focuses on supporting those impacted by cancer.
Clan provides therapies to young people from age 12 years old upwards. Any young person under 16 years must be chaperoned throughout their therapy by a parent or guardian. Any request for children's therapies must come via the Children and Families Service.
