The group will take place every Wednesday from 11am to 12.30pm and is open to anyone impacted by cancer, including those living with a diagnosis, family members, friends and carers.
The walks will provide an opportunity to enjoy gentle physical activity, spend time outdoors and connect with others who understand the challenges of a cancer journey. Participants can walk at their own pace while benefiting from peer support in an informal and friendly setting.
Joanna Smith, Clan’s area services coordinator (Shetland) said: “We know that keeping active and connecting with others can make a real difference to someone’s wellbeing during and after cancer treatment.
“Our new walking group will give people the opportunity to get moving in a relaxed and accessible way while benefiting from the support of others who may be facing similar experiences. Whether someone wants to improve their fitness, build confidence or simply enjoy a chat while walking, everyone is welcome.”
The charity is also recruiting volunteer walk leaders to support the new initiative.
Volunteer walk leaders will play an important role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment by offering a listening ear, helping participants feel at ease and encouraging opportunities for peer support. No experience is required, with full training provided by Clan.
Joanna added: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Clan, and this is a fantastic opportunity for people to get involved with a local charity and give back to the community.”

Clan's walking group starts on Wednesday, August 12 from 11am to 12.30pm at Clan Shetland, Islesburgh Community Centre.
