CLAN To Open Doors of New Base In Peterhead

CLAN Cancer Support will officially open the doors of its new base in Peterhead, with a special launch event on Friday, 29th April 2016.

CLAN has moved into new premises at 1 Carter’s Close, having previously been based within The Hot Spot in Peterhead which is now undergoing renovation work. The new base is shared with Houseability; a local charity offering specialised housing advice and support to people with disabilities or long term health problems in Aberdeenshire.

As part of the new opening, CLAN is inviting locals for a glimpse of the new centre on Friday, April 29, from 10am to 2pm.

The event is open to all and will give people a chance to find out more about CLAN’s support and wellbeing provision in the town as well as information on local volunteering opportunities. Members of the CLAN team in Peterhead will also be available for help and advice, with refreshments and healthy snacks available for all those who attend.

The charity has altered its service days in Peterhead and will now provide its complimentary therapies from the new base every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 4pm by appointment only. Its support and wellbeing service will be available on Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm with no appointment necessary.

Angie Christie, CLAN’s North Aberdeenshire area co-ordinator, said: “We’ve been settling into our new premises at Carter’s Close for the past couple of months and we’re now preparing for our official launch event later this month as we continue to raise awareness of the services and information we currently provide within the town for those affected by cancer.

“Alongside information on our services, we’ll also be on hand to discuss the various local volunteering opportunities that we have within Peterhead. We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who may be interested in becoming a support volunteer to come forward and express their interest. There are also various opportunities to get involved with local fundraising and events

“CLAN has established itself in Peterhead over the last couple of years and there is a real feeling that the charity is about to embark on an exciting new chapter within the town itself. The provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer is so important within communities and any help we receive in maintaining this is vital to our success.”

Anne Mair, Houseability’s service manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome CLAN to our office in Peterhead and look forward to working alongside their staff and volunteers. CLAN offers a fantastic service to people with cancer and their families and we are delighted that an organisation with such an admirable ethos and excellent reputation is based at our venue.

“Houseability offers specialised housing advice and support to people with disabilities or long term health problems in Aberdeenshire, with the aim of enabling and empowering our clients to find solutions to their housing problems. We have a focus on treating our clients with compassion and empathy which matches very well with the ethos of CLAN.”
