The updated service allows people to book confidential appointments tailored to their needs, providing time with a member of Clan's services team to discuss the support that is right for them.
Appointments are available on the last Monday of each month, with four one-hour slots offered between 10:30am and 3pm.
The charity has delivered support sessions in Whalsay for several years, helping people impacted by a cancer diagnosis access emotional support within their local community.
Joanna Smith, Clan Shetland area services coordinator said: “We are committed to ensuring people in Whalsay can continue to access cancer support close to home. By offering pre-booked appointments, we can provide dedicated time for people to talk through their concerns and access support in a way that best meets their needs.”
"We know that accessing services isn't always straightforward for people living in island communities. Having appointments available in Whalsay means people can speak directly with our team, discuss what they're going through and explore the help available to them and their families."
The service is available by appointment only, with bookings required by the Wednesday before each monthly session. If no appointments have been arranged by this deadline, Clan will not attend that month's session and anyone seeking support will be offered an appointment at the next scheduled Whalsay session.
Appointments can be arranged through either Clan Cancer Support or Whalsay Health Centre. Clan can be contacted on 01595 697275 or [email protected], while Whalsay Health Centre can be reached on 01806 566219 or [email protected].
Clan also supports Shetlanders impacted by a cancer diagnosis from its Lerwick base and Clan Accommodation in Aberdeen, which offers home-from-home accommodation and support services to people travelling to the city for medical appointments.
