CLAN awarded £8,189 from Bank of Scotland Foundation
Established in 1983, CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. Although the Support Centre is at CLAN House, Aberdeen, it covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.
The charity has been awarded a grant of £8,189 from the Bank of Scotland Foundation to cover this year’s training costs for the charity’s 90 support volunteers. This sum is in addition to the Matched Giving provided by the Foundation last year totalling £1,200*.
Claire Fraser, services manager of CLAN, said: “This award is so important to CLAN. The quality of the services we provide to our clients affected by cancer is paramount. This award helps us to ensure that our 90 support volunteers across our seven drop-in centres can keep their training and skills up to date. This allows CLAN to continue to be a centre of excellence for cancer support.
“We thank the Bank of Scotland Foundation for recognising and supporting the important work CLAN does in supporting anyone affected by the impact of a cancer diagnosis. CLAN’s support volunteers offer 1,250 hours of service across the north-east of Scotland and Northern Isles every month.”

This is in addition to the £1,200 Matched Giving we were able to provide last year. It’s thrilling to see the difference donations such as these are making to communities across the breadth of Scotland. This brings the total of our donations made to over £3 million.”
The Bank of Scotland Foundation is an independent charity that receives an annual donation of £1m from Lloyds Banking Group. This donation will increase to £2m from 2014. The aim of the Foundation is to help developing and improving communities and financial literacy and financial inclusion.
The next closing date for the Small Grants Programme is 5pm on Monday 15 April 2013.
Applying for a grant:
Applications for the Small Grants Programme are accepted between £1,000 and £20,000 from charities registered in Scotland only. Grants are awarded for one year. Full details and a Small Grants application form can be downloaded from the website at www.bankofscotlandfoundation.org
*Matched Giving:
Lloyds Banking Group is one of the UK's biggest employers, their colleague volunteering initiatives can make a real difference. Thousands of their colleagues are active participants in local community organisations and we further support these colleagues' contributions through our matched giving programme. This enables colleagues to claim up to £1,000 per calendar year - £500 a year to match funds raised for registered charities that meet the Scheme's eligibility criteria, plus up to £500 a year (at a rate of £8 per hour) for time spent volunteering for eligible charities.
