CLAN seeks new Board Member

CLAN Cancer Support is seeking to recruit an additional non-executive member to its Governing Board.

Board Chairman, Robbie Duncan, ”After more than six years Frances Richards is stepping down as a Board member. She has made a tremendous contribution to the Board and we’re all delighted that she will continue to be involved with CLAN through the Friends group in Stonehaven.

“Our Board members come from a wide variety of backgrounds in private and public sector organisations – all are volunteers and all bringing their knowledge and expertise to CLAN.“

This appeal for a new Board member comes at an interesting time in the continued growth and development of the local charity as it marks its 30th Anniversary. In 2013 CLAN plans to develop its services in Moray, North Aberdeenshire and Deeside.

CLAN is particularly looking for someone with retail experience. CLAN’s Chief Executive, Debbie Thomson, explains, “We have a chain of charity shops – two in Aberdeen, one each in Ballater, Lerwick and Kirkwall. Manned by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, our shops bring in valuable income which helps us to offer free support services to those affected by cancer. We are looking for someone with retail experience who will be able to help us maximise opportunities in this area.”

The Board of CLAN has the responsibility for the continuing development of CLAN’s support services throughout the North East of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland.

Joining the CLAN Board will involve attending Board and sub-committee meetings, usually held every two months, participating in some CLAN events and giving advice and input of a specialist nature when required. All Directors provide their services on a voluntary basis.

Anyone interested can contact CEO, Debbie Thomson for an information pack and are invited to write in confidence directly to Robbie Duncan, Chairman, CLAN Cancer Support Centre, CLAN House, Westburn Road, Aberdeen AB25 2QA, enclosing a brief CV and explaining what they feel they could bring to the Board by 10th May 2013.
