Clan was founded in 1983 by a group of patients, health professionals and family members who were determined to improve cancer support services across Aberdeen and the north-east of Scotland.

The intention from the outset was to ensure that anyone affected by cancer, whether personally as a patient or carer, had the emotional support, information and general help needed to ensure their wellbeing at all stages of their cancer journey within the community. Clan has, to this day, stayed true to those intentions and values, becoming an integral part of the north-east's DNA.

Today Clan:

  • has more than 60 staff, and a further 50 therapists and counsellors who help to deliver a wide range of support services.
  • is supported by more than 400 volunteers undertaking a variety of roles.
  • operates across community-based facilities in Aberdeen, Banchory, Inverurie, Mintlaw, Ellon, Cruden Bay, Turriff, Elgin, Lossiemouth, Orkney and Shetland.
  • is committed to raising more than £2.6 million every year with the generous support of many individuals, families, organisations and whole communities.
