Rotary provides £42,500 boost to CLAN

North-east Rotary clubs have handed over a £42,500 donation to CLAN Cancer Support after a successful fundraising campaign.

The impressive total is the result of the combined efforts of Rotarians from 22 clubs in the organisation’s District 1010, who since 2000 have been conducting an annual car raffle to support local good causes. In excess of £482,000 has been raised in that time.

CLAN has benefited from the fundraiser on five occasions and this year’s event, in which Inverurie resident Mike Barron was the lucky winner of a new Mini, raised £42,500 for the charity.

A further £20,000 was raised and this has been distributed to additional charities selected by individual Rotary clubs within the district. With the purchase of the Mini funded by sponsorship by energy firm TAQA, every penny pledged in ticket sales went to good causes.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “The support of the Rotary Clubs has been wonderful and the latest car raffle continues the generous backing we have had over the years. The money will be put to good use as we expand our services and aim to reach more people.

“The energy of the Rotarians is fantastic and our own network of fundraisers have followed that lead, with CLAN raising £15,500 of the £42,500 total through our own ticket sales. It was a real team effort and we cannot thank the Rotary Clubs enough for organising the raffle.”

Over five years, CLAN has received close to £170,000 from the Rotary car raffle. The Bon Accord Centre has been a long term supporter of the fundraiser, providing a city centre base for ticket sales during the festive period.
