Orkney country music legend’s new single for cancer charity
Orkney country music sensation Ruby Rendall records new charity single to help raise funds for CLAN Cancer Support. The single, a cover of Julie Gold's 'From a Distance', is out Sunday 7th March available from CLAN's Orkney charity shop and online.
Ruby who first rose to prominence in the country music scene with her 1982 album ‘Ruby Red Wine’ and now teaches piano at Chalmers Mackay Music School in Inverurie, was inspired to take action to help the charity raise much-needed funds.
Ruby said, "Charities have been hit hard by the pandemic and I wanted to do something to support a charity dear to my heart, CLAN Cancer Support. With events cancelled and postponed, I thought this would be an excellent way to reach even more people by launching the single online.
"The Country Music fraternity have generous hearts, and I know folk in Orkney, Shetland and down here in the north-east get themselves right behind charities like CLAN."
Each CD and download will come with an accompanying video featuring beautiful views from across the Orkney Islands, and all proceeds will go to CLAN.
"I'm an Orcadian, so I never tire of the scenic views of my home, but I wanted to share this with people across the world in the hope that one day soon, we'll be able to travel freely once more."
CLAN has continued to offer cancer support services, including a telephone support service, online classes, transport to cancer appointments and the CLAN Haven bed and breakfast service for those who live out with Aberdeen attending treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
CLAN's Area Manager, Karen Scott, said, "We're delighted to have the support of Ruby with her latest single, and I'd like to encourage people to give what they can to support CLAN. Our services have remained vital to those facing a cancer diagnosis throughout the pandemic, all while we have been unable to fundraise through our usual events. We're grateful to Ruby and all those who have and continue to support us so that CLAN can be here today and in the future for those affected by cancer.
