Clan appoints five new Board Trustees
Clan Cancer Support has announced five new appointments to its Board of Trustees, bolstering the charity with expertise across the healthcare and corporate sectors.
Laura Birnie, Mike Killeen, Bobby Lamberton, George Ramsay and Claire Stevenson have been appointed to Clan’s Board as the charity continues to address post-pandemic challenges and position the organisation for future growth.
Laura is a chartered accountant with 20 years of finance and business management experience having worked in a variety of senior roles throughout her career. From Peterhead, Laura has strong ties to her local community and will join Peterhead Port Authority as finance manager in the new year.
Mike Killeen has more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and is currently chief operating officer at Serica Energy. Mike has strong personal and professional links to the Shetland Islands and will participate in the jarl squad in the 2024 Lerwick Up- Helly-Aa.
Bobby Lamberton is a retired medical general practitioner with 33 years of experience. He currently works as a part-time locum GP delivering work in medical practices across Aberdeen City and Shire. Bobby also has extensive experience as a leader in local youth groups.
George Ramsay is an honorary consultant colorectal and general surgeon at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and a senior clinical lecturer at the Health Services Research Unit at University of Aberdeen. He undertakes cancer resections (tumour removal) as part of his clinical work.
Claire Stevenson is a well known events host and presenter with more than 14 years of broadcasting experience in the north-east. Claire is an experienced media professional with a passion for engaging and growing audiences.
The new trustees join Clan’s board of directors which is chaired by Stuart Cochrane, lead consultant at Ochter Consulting, and supported by finance director Katy Gifford and board member Ceri Ritchie.
Stuart Cochrane, chairman of Clan’s board said: “Our new trustees bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills which will be invaluable to Clan as the charity continues to grow and adapt to meet the needs of its clients.

Clan Cancer Support is the longest standing commercially independent cancer support charity in the north of Scotland, with all services sustained entirely by fundraising.
Fiona Fernie unveiled the charity’s three-year strategy in 2022 following her appointment as Clan’s CEO in the same year. The strategy outlines ways in which the charity aims to stabilise and recover financially following the uncertainty created by the pandemic.

“George and Bobby are well positioned to ensure Clan continues to align its services to the needs of cancer patients and that we maximise the opportunity to support the NHS with complementary care and emotional and physical support for those impacted by a diagnosis.
Fiona Fernie continued: “Laura, Mike and Claire each bring their own individual expertise from the corporate sector with their skillset being a huge asset as we look to maximise our partnerships with businesses and grow Clan Now, our wholly owned commercial subsidiary.
