Sinclairs on Course with £40,000 AIM

One of the north-east’s most popular family jewellers has already raised nearly £12,000 as its fundraising efforts to mark its 40 year anniversary gather momentum.

Sinclairs in Inverurie has set itself a target of raising £40,000 to mark the special milestone, with all funds from a programme of events throughout the year being shared between north-east charities Befriend a Child and CLAN Cancer Support.

The campaign got off to a flying start in March, with a team from the business tackling the Run Garioch 10k road race, adding an impressive £3,110 to the already growing total.

A successful sold-out fashion show and afternoon tea event at Meldrum House Hotel in May, which saw hundreds of guests treated to fun and fizz alongside a prize draw raffle and clothes by Fashionista, Vanity and Gibbs Menswear, has helped boost the total by a further £6,000.

This was followed up by a generous donation from Inverurie-based William Lippe Architects. The architect practice, which itself celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, purchased two Raymond Weil watches from the jeweller and auctioned off the timepieces at its recent celebratory dinner and dance.

With both going for an impressive £2,000, the decision was made to donate the money to the Sinclairs fundraising effort, helping bring the running total to nearly £12,000.

Ian Sinclair said: “To have nearly £12,000 raised so far is fantastic and I’d like to thank all those who attended the fashion show and afternoon tea event. It was a great afternoon and we’re delighted that so many took the time out to attend and show their support to both CLAN and Befriend a Child.

“I’d also like to say a special thank you to William Lippe and his team. Their donation was completely out of the blue and is again another fantastic example of how local people are really getting behind our fundraising efforts. To have this level of support already is great and will be a massive help in our quest to raise £40,000.”

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “The team at Sinclairs has had a fantastic start to their fundraising campaign and I’d like to thank them for their efforts so far in achieving what is already a fantastic total.

“The fashion show and afternoon tea was a great day for all those who attended and we’re looking forward to the next events throughout the remainder of the year.”

Lana Bambridge, development & resources manager at Befriend a Child, said, “We very much appreciate the time and effort that the Sinclairs team have put into making this a successful fundraising campaign and feel honoured to be sharing in their 40th anniversary celebrations this year.”

The campaign continues next month with a charity golf day at Meldrum House Golf Club on Thursday, August 27. The day will see teams treated to lunch before competing in a round of golf, with a barbecue and raffle to follow. Various prizes for the winning team, longest drive and nearest the pin will also be awarded.

Team spaces are still available and can be reserved by contacting Carol Mackie (nee Sinclair) on 07415 660 324 or sinclairs40th@hotmail.com

Ian Sinclair added: “The next event on the programme is our golf day in August. Tickets are still available, but are limited so we’d encourage anyone looking to enter a team to get in touch to avoid disappointment. We think it’s shaping up to be a great day out and we’re looking forward to welcoming the teams to what we hope will be a highly successful event.”

Tickets are also on sale for the jeweller’s 40 year anniversary ball which will take place at Thainstone Exchange on Saturday, October 31. Guests will be treated to an evening of food and entertainment, with music provided by the Graham Geddes Band.
