Meet Alana Welsh
At Clan, we have our team of superheroes who make it their mission to support clients in any way they can. We spoke our new Mainland Community Development Coordinator, Alana Welsh, to get to know one of the many superheroes who have the power to help.
Tell us a bit about yourself, who you are, where have you come from?
Hi I'm Alana, I live and was raised in Aberdeen (a true Torry Quine!). I like spending my spare time with my friends and family. I am a bit of a gigger, love going to see lots of different events from concerts to shows and musicals, so this past few years I have missed this hugely.
What made you want to work for Clan?
Clan is such an amazing charity that helps so many families across the North East of Scotland and Northern Isles who are affected by cancer. The fact that Clan can help and support families in so many different ways in so many different areas is incredible. I too have been affected by cancer in the past and my family attended Clan for help and support when we needed it the most.
Knowing how they helped me and my family, I wanted to join the team as part of the fundraising department, so I can be part of new and exciting ways to raise money so that Clan can continue to deliver their amazing services to all of our communities for many more years to come.
How did you end up in this line of work?
My background is mainly corporate sales working in Occupational Health and Hotels sectors but I have always wanted to venture into the third sector and work for a charity (especially a local one). When I was made aware of this role I couldn’t not go for it and I am so honoured to have been given this opportunity as Clan’s Mainland Community Development Coordinator.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
This is a bit of a weird one but I have a fear of rabbits… yes you read right. I am not sure why but as far back as I remember I have always feared them (especially the white ones with red eyes)!
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Like every little girl I went through the motions of wanting to be this and that and changing my mind every 5 minutes but the ones that stood out to me were, I firstly remember wanting to be a beauty therapist, then I moved onto wanting to be a primary school teacher and that stuck for a while, but my dream was to become an actress and work on the big stage.
When I was in my sixth year of school I decided to study events management and here I am today working in events and fundraising.
Who is your hero?
My hero would be my Grandma, I always looked up to her she was one of a kind and a very incredible woman. She had many health conditions but that never ever stopped her, no task was too big for her. She had the biggest heart and if I could be just half the woman she was then I would be happy!
Can you give us two truths and one lie about yourself?
- I used to play the Drums
- I’ve never been to a wedding
- I hate spicy food
