CLAN seeking additional volunteers in Orkney

CLAN Cancer Support, a leading north-east cancer support charity, is looking to increase its pool of support volunteers in Orkney.

The charity has been providing free support services to anyone affected by cancer for over 30 years and currently enlists the help of over 400 volunteers across the north and north-east of Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland giving in excess of 40,000 hours of support to the charity per year.

Support volunteers offer those affected by a cancer diagnosis an opportunity to talk with someone who can listen and provide emotional support. To ensure support volunteers are equipped to provide clients with the right level of emotional support, a full induction and COSCA validated training will be provided by CLAN’s training team.

Jane Adams, CLAN’s volunteer co-ordinator, said: “CLAN’s team of volunteers is incredibly important to the charity and we are continually grateful for the level of support shown from local people from the wide range of areas we operate in.

“We are would like to increase the number of support volunteers in Orkney and we’d be delighted to hear from those looking to get involved with the charity.

“People who volunteer with CLAN can often find it very rewarding as well as a great method of giving something back to a charity that works in their local community. You don’t need to be an expert in support volunteering; full training will be given and we’re always here to help you on every step of the way.”

Those interested in becoming involved with CLAN are asked to register an interest with CLAN’s Islands’ Coordinator, Karen Scott, by September 11, with full volunteer training set to take place within Orkney over three days at the end of September.

Please contact Karen Scott on 01856 873393, karen.scott@clanhouse.oerg or visit www.clanhouse.org for more details.

The charity would also like to hear from anyone who would like to help out in its shop in Kirkwall. Please contact Karen Scott for further information.
