Golfers drive up thousands for CLAN Cancer Support

Generous golfers from across the north-east have come to the fore to raise thousands of pounds for a leading north-east cancer support charity.

CLAN Cancer Support hosted its annual Young Pro-Am event at Insch Golf Club on Friday, August 22, which saw 18 teams, along with the help of a PGA Young Professionals, take on the 18-hole course to raise funds for the charity.

Despite challenging weather, the golfers turned out in their numbers to raise nearly £11,000 for the charity, with a longest drive, nearest the pin, raffle and post putting competition all helping contribute to the final total.

The day was again supported by oil and natural gas operator CNR International; a support that allowed all funds raised on the day to go directly towards the charity’s provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer in the north and north-east of Scotland.

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN, said: “Our annual golf day has firmly established itself in our summer fundraising calendar and this year’s event was again well supported by golfers from all across the north-east of Scotland.

“I’d like to thank Insch Golf Club and CNR International for their continued generosity in supporting the event; a support that will make such a difference to so many people across the area.”

Barry Duncan, CNRI’s vice president of finance, said: “We were delighted to again show our support to a fantastic charity that does such a great amount of work in communities across the north-east of Scotland.

“CNR International places a great importance on supporting a number of good causes within Aberdeen and the surrounding area and it was great that the golf event was such a resounding success.”
