Walkers sought for CLAN’s annual Tartan Trek

Walkers from the north-east and Deeside are being sought to take part in a popular fundraising event.

CLAN Cancer Support’s 5th annual Tartan Trek takes place on Saturday, May 10, and will see walkers explore the picturesque Glen Gelder on Balmoral Estate.

Participants of all fitness levels are being encouraged to take part and can opt for either a 6km or 15km route. Both walks are, for the most part, on fairly flat landrover tracks and finish up with an impressive view of Balmoral Castle.

Last year over 200 walkers took part in the event which aims to raise awareness of the services CLAN provides in the Deeside area to those affected by cancer alongside raising funds that will help enable this provision of free support to continue.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “Over the last couple of the years, the annual Tartan Trek really has established itself as one of our most popular fundraising and awareness events in Deeside and we hope people will continue this fantastic support at next month’s walk.

“The event is always a fun and enjoyable day and both walks offer up some of the most breathtaking views of what really is a beautiful part of Scotland. We’d be delighted if you could don something tartan and join us.”

The walk starts at 11am from the rear of the Tourist Information Centre in Crathie by Balmoral and has a minimum registration fee of £6 to take part. Participants can enter online via www.entrycentral.com/tartantrek, or registration and sponsor forms can be collected from the CLAN shop in Ballater. Participants can also register on the day from 10am. Under-16s can walk for free but must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs are allowed.
