Islanders will be able to experience CLAN Cancer Support’s new therapies at a free event in Shetland this weekend at our ‘Feel Good Day’, at the Sound Hall, Lerwick on Sunday (May 31) between midday and 4pm.
A variety of therapy taster sessions will be on offer from volunteers, hair stylists and complementary therapists at the free event.
Attendees will have the chance to be pampered and try some of the therapies on offer, which range from reflexology, relaxation and visualisation to facials, massage, makeovers and a hair and nail salon.
Visitors can also indulge in some retail therapy in the form of a clothes swap and ex demo wedding apparel, including outfits, jewellery and accessories for the bridal and wedding party, will also be available for purchase.
Dana Millarkie, CLAN’s Shetland area co-ordinator, said: “As many of us are affected by cancer we hope this event can help give an insight into some of the support available, not just for patients but also for carers and other family members. It is also a great opportunity to get a bit of pampering and sample everything we have to offer, including some nibbles and refreshments.
“We are hoping to raise awareness at the Feel Good Day of our extended services and also receive feedback on how we can best help people locally affected by cancer. We are in the process of developing a wide range of support and wellbeing activities, nutrition, peer support and complementary services as well as local partnerships, so opinion from people who use these services is very important to us. We are all really looking forward to the event, which everyone is welcome to attend.”
CLAN’s support and wellbeing centre in Lerwick is located at 20A St Magnus Street and is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. Its adjacent shop at 39 Commercial Road is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and Saturday, 10am to 2pm.
