Sinclairs Mark 40 Years with £40,000 AIM

One of the north-east’s most popular family jewellers is aiming to mark its 40 year anniversary by raising £40,000 for charity.

Sinclairs in Inverurie was established in 1975 by Tom and Helen Sinclair after the couple moved to the town from their home in Shetland. Son Ian joined the business in 1979 and later took over the reins when Tom and Helen retired in 1996. Ian’s daughter Debbie joined the business in 1997 where they both remain today.

Boasting a 7,000 sq ft store, with large jewellery, gift and watch departments, alongside a café and bistro, the business has been a mainstay in the heart of Inverurie, building a reputation across the north-east for innovation and exceptional customer service.

And now, as the jeweller enters its 40th year in business, it plans to mark this special milestone with three events throughout the year with an aim of raising £40,000 for two local, worthwhile causes; Befriend a Child and CLAN Cancer Support.

The first event will take the shape of a fashion show and afternoon tea at Meldrum House Hotel on Sunday, May 31. Guests will be treated to fun and fizz alongside a prize draw raffle and complimentary goody bag. Clothes for the fashion show will be supplied by Fashionista, Vanity and Gibbs Menswear.

This will be followed by a charity golf day at Meldrum House Golf Club on Thursday, August 27, along with the jeweller’s 40 year anniversary ball at Thainstone Exchange on Saturday, October 31. Tickets for all three events are now on sale with all profits from each going directly to the two chosen charities.

The year-long fundraising campaign has already got off to a flying start when a team consisting of Ian Sinclair, Debbie Sinclair, Martin Sinclair and Steve Mitchell completed the recent Run Garioch 10k race, adding an impressive £3110 to the already growing total.

Ian Sinclair said: “We’ve been thinking of ways to mark our 40th anniversary and we really wanted to help give back something to the community that we’ve been a part of for so long.

“Befriend a Child is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and we know of CLAN’s work through Inverurie as well as through some of our family in Shetland using CLAN Haven during treatment. We thought both would be a really nice fit for us.

“The events we have lined up really do have something for everyone, all of which will culminate in our anniversary ball in October. It’ll be a real chance for both our staff and loyal customers to look back and to look forward alongside raising funds and awareness for what are two extremely worthwhile causes.

“For those who have sponsored us already or bought a ticket to one of the events, I’d like to thank you for your support so far. It’s shaping up to be a special year for all associated with Sinclairs and we want as many people as possible to be a part of it with us.”

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “We are incredibly grateful to be such a part of Sinclairs special year and we can’t thank them enough for selecting CLAN to be a beneficiary of their year-long fundraising efforts.

“The business itself is much-loved throughout the north-east and I’m sure it will be a fitting way to celebrate 40 years of service. We can’t wait to join in with the celebrations.”

Lana Bambridge, development and resources manager at Befriend a Child, said: “Befriend a Child is delighted that Sinclairs of Inverurie have decided to share their 40th Anniversary with us. This is an amazing milestone and achievement for the company and we’re grateful to be a part of their very special celebrations.”
