CLAN in Running for Funding

CLAN CANCER SUPPORT IN RUNNING FOR FUNDING

We are appealing for local backing to win thousands of pounds in community funding which will enable us to move to a new centre in Peterhead.

CLAN Cancer Support has been put forward to receive up to £5,000 from Aviva, but needs the support of the public to make it through to the final.

The Aviva Community Fund offers support and funding to local causes which are voted for online. If successful CLAN will put the money towards moving to new premises in Peterhead to enable it to support more people in the area who are affected by cancer.

The charity currently offers a support and information service every Wednesday and Friday at The Hot Spot in Peterhead as well as access to a range of complementary therapies.

Public voting for CLAN’s new centre is open until May 30, with the projects with the most votes going through to the final and being judged by the Aviva panel.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager said: “Having support closer to home makes all the difference to people, especially as they often have to go to Aberdeen for treatment. We are open in Peterhead two days a week at the moment and helped 42 people there on 303 occasions last year.

“We are currently in talks with a local business to rent a bigger space which would allow us to increase our opening hours, support more people in the area with cancer and provide more appointments. As well as this, having a space that is ours alone means that we can get the layout right for both us and our clients.

“We were absolutely delighted to find out that CLAN had made it through to the public vote for AVIVA funding and we are urging everyone to get behind us and help us make this move a reality. If we are lucky enough to win, then we will use the £5,000 toward furniture, paint and all those finishing touches for the new space, with any remaining money being used towards therapies in Peterhead.”
