Gentle Movement And Massage Falls Under Sportlight At CLAN

The benefits of gentle movement and massage to those affected by cancer will be reinforced at a special taster evening hosted by CLAN Cancer Support.

The evening, which will be held at CLAN House in Aberdeen on August 6, between 6pm and 8pm, will give attendees the chance to learn about the Move More initiative.

Move More Aberdeen is a partnership between CLAN, Macmillan Cancer Support and Sport Aberdeen that aims to showcase the positive change that physical activity may have on improving the health and wellbeing of those affected by cancer.

The free session will give attendees the chance to hear of the different weekly sessions that they may be able to attend, including information on various walking groups, gentle movement exercises and circuit groups that are held, specifically for those affected by cancer, in Aberdeen.

Alongside the insight into Move More, CLAN will also hold a music and massage session. Attendees are being given the chance to head along to CLAN House to listen to a range of relaxing piano music while receiving a soothing hand, neck or head massage. Refreshments will also be served throughout the evening.

Lucy Whiteman, CLAN’s services manager, said: “At CLAN, we recognise the benefits that both gentle exercise and relaxation can have on an individual who has been affected by cancer and this taster evening will give an insight into the sort of service that we can provide.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Macmillan and Sport Aberdeen as part of the Move More scheme and we’d encourage anyone who is interested in hearing about what the sessions will offer to head down and find out more.

“Alongside this, we’re going to hold a music and massage evening which is the other end of the spectrum when compared to exercise but still has an important role to play. A cancer diagnosis can be a stressful time for all those affected so we’re aiming to provide a night where people can relax and take some time out for themselves.”

Mark Brown, the Macmillan development officer: "We are delighted to be expanding the Move More Aberdeen programme through this partnership with CLAN Cancer Support. It will help to ensure that the huge benefits of physical activity are more readily available to more people affected by cancer in Aberdeen.”

The Move More taster session will take place between 6pm and 7pm. Those interested in attending are asked to phone 01224 577729 or email movemore@sportaberdeen.co.uk to confirm a place.
