A fundraising event organised by a leading cancer support charity has received a boost from an Aberdeen-headquartered transport company.

First Bus has agreed to provide free transport from Aberdeen City centre for anyone attending CLAN Cancer Support’s new event, CLAN at the Castle, at Crathes Castle on Sunday, September 10.

The event, which features three different sponsored walks and a fun day, is a new event on the charity’s calendar and the organisation hopes the generous support from First Bus will ensure more people can join in the fun and help to turn the gardens and tracks of Crathes Castle purple!

The CLAN branded buses will make six runs from Aberdeen to Crathes Castle, with the service starting at 7.15am, 8.15am, 9.15am, 10.15am, 11.15am and 12.15pm from Skene Street, behind His Majesty’s Theatre.

The services will stop to collect people at Carden Place (Malmaison), Great Western Road (Coop), Cults (outside Lloyds Pharmacy) and Peterculter (opposite SPAR).

Return trips from Crathes Castle to Aberdeen will depart at 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Steph Dowling, CLAN’s Fundraising Team Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of First Bus and hope that the regular shuttles to and from Crathes Castle to the centre of Aberdeen will encourage even more people to sign up for one of our walks or come along to our fun day.

“The sponsored walks will cover 1.25 miles, 5.7miles and 13 miles taking in woodland tracks around the castle grounds and local area and the fun day, which is open to all, will include entertainment, refreshments and catering and inflatables.

“We wanted to create a day which had something for everyone, whether you are taking part as an individual, or as a families, group or corporate team.

“Thanks to the dedication of those who raise crucial funds for CLAN at events like these, we are able to continue to develop the wellbeing and support services needed for people affected by cancer right in the heart of local communities across the north-east of Scotland.”

First Aberdeen Managing Director, David Phillips, said: “This is a fantastic event, which is warmly supported by First Aberdeen and our Unite union members.

“CLAN Cancer Support is a cause which is dear to colleagues’ hearts and we hope that through the provision of free transport on the day and our team’s enthusiastic support that it will inspire as many people as possible to join in the fun.”
