CLAN’s Landmark Walk to return in September

A unique fundraising walk that last year helped raise tens of thousands of pounds for CLAN Cancer Support is set to return in September.

CLAN's Landmark Walk will take place on Sunday, September 21 and will this year feature two routes of 13 miles and 7.8 miles, which are set to take in a number of prominent spots and landmarks throughout the city.

Both routes will run in reverse of last year’s course and children over 12 can take part in the smaller 7.8 mile route for the first time.

Last year, the inaugural event attracted nearly 300 walkers and over 300 marshals and volunteers, as people from across the north-east came together to help raise over £40,000 for the charity.

This year’s event will again be supported by commercial law firm Bond Dickinson; a support that will aid CLAN in its provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer across the north-east of Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, is delighted the walk is to return again this year. She said: “Last year’s walk was a massive success with hundreds of people turning out to support the event – even the sun gave us a helping hand on the day!

“We’re absolutely delighted to announce the return of the event this year and we really are all very determined to make it the biggest and best Landmark Walk yet. Last year we saw a phenomenal amount of walkers and volunteers get involved and it would be great if they came back again this year and helped to spread the word about the walk even further.

“We’re looking for individuals, groups of friends, businesses and companies to join us in the walk to help raise funds and awareness for CLAN. The feedback we received from walkers last year was extremely positive and I’m sure this year’s event will be no different; it really is shaping up to be a fun and rewarding day for all those involved.

“I’d like to personally thank Bond Dickinson for showing their support again; they were a magnificent help last year and their continued commitment is greatly appreciated by everyone associated with the charity.

“There are still a number of various sponsorship packages available and we’d encourage local businesses and individuals to come forward and find out more about how they can get involved.”

Michael Spence of Bond Dickinson, said: “We were delighted to take the idea of a fund raising walk to CLAN last year and work with them to realise the concept. CLAN make such a distinctive and important contribution to the local community and we saw this as a magnificent way to show our support and commitment to the locality at large, beyond our commercial focus as a law firm to the oil and gas sector”

Registrations are now being accepted for the walk, with volunteers also being sought to assist with the smooth running of the event. Among the first participants that have signed up for this year’s event are teams from local company’s Prodrill and Aberdeen Property Leasing.
