CLAN seeking additional volunteers across North East Scotland, Moray, Orkney & Shetland

CLAN Cancer Support is appealing to those looking for a fresh challenge in 2014 as it announces a recruitment drive to attract new volunteers.

CLAN is looking to increase its pool of volunteers at all of its bases across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland as it continues its 30th year of providing a range of free support services to anyone affected by cancer.

Within Aberdeen, CLAN is specifically looking for volunteers to help at its Rosemount and Chapel Street charity shops where both outlets continue to go from strength-to-strength, with the sale of donated goods helping to provide a significant contribution to the charity. A range of roles are available including sales assistants and stocktaking.

Jane Adams, CLAN’s volunteer co-ordinator, said: “CLAN’s pool of volunteers is the foundation which the charity is built upon and we are entirely grateful for those who continue to donate spare time towards the charity.

“We have a range of opportunities available across all our bases and we’re appealing to those who have perhaps decided they would like a fresh challenge this year, but are perhaps not sure what the challenge is yet, to come forward and learn more about what sort of thing you can get involved with.

“In Aberdeen, we have a limited number of opportunities within our busy charity shops that would be perfect for those looking to meet new people alongside helping CLAN continue to provide free cancer support services across the city and further afield.”

The charity was recently awarded with a Volunteer Friendly Award, a quality standard designed to recognise and reward best practice in working with volunteers.

Valerie Cameron of Volunteer Centre Aberdeenshire, the organisation responsible for the award, said: “The Volunteer Friendly Award is a quality standard awarded to organisations that show evidence of best practice in working with volunteers.

“CLAN Cancer Support has demonstrated an ethos of fairness and equality and a commitment to provide rewarding volunteering opportunities and to give each volunteer the induction, training and support necessary for them to carry out their volunteer role effectively.

“Volunteer Centre Aberdeenshire is delighted to have supported CLAN in achieving this award. The charity’s volunteers do an amazing job and make a real difference to the lives of so many people in the north-east and we would like to congratulate it on this achievement.” To hear what CLAN's volunteers say about volunteering at CLAN visit our website.
