CLAN Fraserburgh - one year on
CLAN Cancer Support is to mark its first anniversary of providing services within Fraserburgh next week as it continues to go from strength to strength in north Aberdeenshire.
CLAN will thank its personnel and volunteers for their hard work throughout the last year with a special gathering in Fraserburgh on May 12 that will recognise the base’s first 12 months in operations
The charity opened its drop-in facility within the north-east town a year ago and has witnessed a high uptake of its free services it provides to anyone affected by cancer.
Throughout the last year, the facility, which is open every Monday from 10am to 4pm, has seen a total of 187 client appointments for a range of different therapies that includes reflexology, reiki, massage, aqua detox as well as one-to-one counselling. The Fraserburgh centre has also received 257 contacts for people looking for drop-in, telephone or email support and information.
After initially opening to provide information and a listening ear, the charity has further increased its offering from the centre with the appointment of a local counsellor who is available for appointments. Its children and family service team also now provides services within the area and a monthly coffee morning has also been established.
Ruth Brown, area services co-ordinator for CLAN, said: “The establishment of a presence within Fraserburgh a year ago very much marked the expansion of CLAN’s free support services in north Aberdeenshire. The charity had a goal of making it easier for people in the area to access its services locally and the base within the town has helped meet this throughout the last year.
“What started as a hub to provide information and a listening ear for those affected by cancer has developed considerable throughout the last 12 months, with hundreds of local people coming through the doors to see how CLAN and its range of complementary therapies and counselling services could benefit them.”
The charity has also paid tribute to the local people who have helped fundraise and volunteer within the area throughout the last year.
Ruth added: “The support we’ve had from the people of Fraserburgh and the surrounding area, both in terms of volunteering and fundraising, has been phenomenal and this essential help has very much played a key role in helping establish the charity within the area.
“We’ve also seen a high level support from local individuals and companies which is fantastic and I’d encourage anyone thinking of helping CLAN, whether it be fundraising, supporting one of our many events or even volunteering, to come forward and find out more.”
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity. It is open one day a week in Fraserburgh offering a drop-in service, complementary therapies and counselling as well as a monthly coffee morning.
