CLAN Children and Family Support team to host fun activities in Orkney

A charity with an Orkney base is encouraging local youngsters affected by cancer to participate in its children and family service activities which will be held in Kirkwall next month.

CLAN Cancer Support will be run a series of activities on Tuesday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 3, for young people aged from 6-16 years. There is no cost to families.

On Tuesday there will be an outdoor sporting activity while on Wednesday there will be crafts, pizza making and activities in the CLAN garden.

Eileen Wheeler and Leigh Ryrie of the CLAN children & family service team will be running the activities. The charity hopes that the events will provide youngsters with an opportunity to spend time with young people of a similar age who have also experienced cancer, whether directly or through a relative or friend.

CLAN’s children and family service manager Eileen Wheeler said: “A cancer diagnosis affects everyone in the family and our dedicated children and family support team can offer support to youngsters at what is a very difficult time.

“We travel to Orkney approximately every eight weeks to meet with clients. I am delighted that we are able to supplement our regular visits by offering activities to young people during the school holidays.”

“Our evening drop-in sessions offer an opportunity to find out more about how we can support families in Orkney as well as when they are staying with us in CLAN Haven in Aberdeen.”

Places are limited. To find out more or to book a place for the children’s activities please contact Leigh Ryrie on 01224 651021 or leigh.ryrie@clanhouse.org or Karen Scott on 01856 873393 or karen.scott@clanhouse.org.

Eileen and Leigh will also host a drop-in session at CLAN’s Orkney base at 30 Victoria Street, Kirkwall from 5-7 pm on Tuesday July 2. There is no need to book and parents and young people are welcome to come along.
