CLAN Cancer Support to launch Turriff services

CLAN Cancer Support is offering the people of Turriff the chance to gain an insight into the services it will provide within the town.

CLAN is inviting local people from Turriff and the surrounding area to an official launch event, to be held within the Turriff Town House on December 4, from 10am to 2pm.

The charity, which announced that it will provide a range of services from within the former municipal building on the town’s High Street earlier this month, will showcase a number of taster complementary therapies for those affected by cancer at the events.

A number of CLAN’s specialist support staff will also be available on the day, with trained nutritionist Cathy Clark and hairdresser Estelle Robb, who operates the charity’s hair and wig styling salon within CLAN House in Aberdeen, present to answer and questions on these services. Information on CLAN’s post-breast surgery lingerie product range and fitting service will also be available.

CLAN, which has its head office in Aberdeen but covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland will offer a number of free services from its Turriff base for anyone affected by cancer, including one-to-one support, counselling, access to its specialist children and families’ service, complementary therapies and wellbeing activities.

The charity’s Turriff base will be initially open every Friday from 10am to 4pm, with services commencing on Friday, December 5.

Lucy Whiteman, CLAN’s services manager, said: “Plans for developing CLAN Cancer Support in Turriff have been ongoing for a number of months now, so we’re delighted to be in the position of announcing this expansion; it is important that more rural communities throughout Aberdeenshire can access the type of support CLAN can offer.

“CLAN’s has already received a fantastic support from Turriff and the surrounding areas, with a number of local people helping raise both funds and awareness for the charity through events within the region and others signing up to become a CLAN volunteer.

“This launch event is aiming to give a taste of the range of free services CLAN currently offers to those affected by cancer and we’d be delighted if people would be able to join us on the day. We’ll have a number of our specialist staff available to answer questions and we’ll also have some delicious refreshments, snacks and smoothies for people to try.

“We hope that the availability of CLAN services within the town will be beneficial to the community by making more local support accessible to patients, carers and other family members affected by cancer. This official launch and subsequent commencement of services is a major step in allowing this to happen.”

CLAN has also announced the appointment of two new staff members to its North Aberdeenshire team. Angie Christie, North Aberdeenshire area co-ordinator and Suzi Will, local services co-ordinator, will have an integral role in the development of the charity’s services within the area and will be involved with the new service provision within Turriff.
