CLAN Banchory Hosts Volunteering Evening
A leading north-east cancer support charity is appealing for new volunteers to come forward as it celebrates a year in its Banchory base.
CLAN Cancer Support moved to its first permanent home in Banchory at Posties Walk in February 2016, having previously use temporary space at West Church Hall.
Since opening the base, CLAN has expanded its provision of wellbeing and support services for anyone affected by cancer. Within the space CLAN now provides support, information and signposting to organisations as well as complementary therapies and relaxation classes.
As a result, CLAN is now seeking new volunteers to join its dedicated team, with roles including support volunteers as well as event and fundraising support.
Support volunteers help to provide emotional support, information and signposting to various support services within CLAN, with event and fundraising volunteers helping to raise awareness of CLAN’s wellbeing and support services within communities.
The base will host a volunteering information evening on Thursday, 16th March from 4.30pm – 6.30pm which is open to anyone wishing to find out more about volunteering with the charity and how their time and expertise could help those affected by cancer.
Gemma Powell, CLAN’s Aberdeenshire Area Coordinator, is looking forward to welcoming people to the informal event.
She said: “There are many ways in which people can support CLAN by giving their time as a volunteer. We are keen to hear from people who would be interested in a number of different roles, from support volunteers to event and fundraising support. We also have our popular shop in Ballater which relies on a great team of volunteers.
“Volunteering attracts a diverse range of people, from those taking a career break or retired, to full time parents and people who give CLAN the benefit of their specific skills above and beyond their working day.”
“Without volunteers, CLAN would not be able to deliver the wide range of cancer support services, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer throughout north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.”
CLAN Banchory is open every Thursday from 10am to 4pm, and Fridays by appointment. The charity also shares the base with Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.
Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Elgin, Buckie, Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Lossiemouth, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
