CLAN Offers Support For Bereaved Families In The Run Up To Mother’s Day

A leading north-east charity is holding a special drop-in session this week to provide help and support around Mother’s Day.

CLAN Cancer Support recognises that the day (March 26) can often be a difficult time for those who have lost a loved one, whether a son or daughter or for individuals who have lost their own mother or wife.

With this in mind, the charity is holding a drop-in event for young people and their families on Thursday (March 16), which will focus on keeping memories safe. Members of CLAN’s dedicated Children and Family Service will be on hand to offer one-to-one support, guidance or further information.

Iona Mitchell, CLAN’s interim services manager, said: “Mother’s Day can be a challenging time for anyone who has experienced the loss or bereavement of a parent or child, as it can trigger difficult memories and emotions connected with their loss.

“Many different things can cause the bereaved to reflect on their loss – a location, smell, anniversary or even a bunch of balloons saying ‘Mum’ – can all trigger memories and emotions.

“At CLAN, we want to help people manage these feelings in a relaxed atmosphere, and would like to invite anyone who finds Mother’s Day difficult to join us on Thursday. The drop-in event is informal and provides an opportunity for people to come together, receive support or even just enjoy a hot chocolate and a chat within a safe space.”

The drop- in session is being held at CLAN House, Aberdeen, between 3pm and 7pm. For further information please contact a member of the Children and Family Services team on 01224 647000.
