CLAN Cancer Support had been chosen by Inverurie car dealership I&K Motors as its nominated charity for 2013 with both organisations sharing their 30th anniversaries this year.

The car supercentre has handed over a cheque for £60,000 to the charity after a year-long programme of events to mark this special milestone.

A Burns Supper at Inverurie Town Hall in January, a golf event at Meldrum House, a lunch at Kintore Arms Hotel and a recent anniversary dinner at Lochter have all contributed to the phenomenal total.

CLAN has also been presented with a special registration plate to mark the anniversary. ‘CC11 AAN’ will adorn the charity’s mini-bus which is used to transport clients who are staying at its Haven accommodation to and from Aberdeen hospitals for appointments and treatment.

I&K Motors managing director Steve Innes said: “We were delighted to offer our support to a charity that touches the lives of so many people here in the north-east of Scotland. It’s been a celebratory year for both organisations and the enthusiasm and drive to raise funds for the charity has been there in abundance across our entire workforce and with our customers.

“We have a very loyal customer base and they have also proved very generous after we offered every person who has bought a new car with us this year the chance to make a donation towards the charity. I’d like to offer my sincere gratitude to all those who have helped make this fundraising effort such a rewarding success.”

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “The support from Steve Innes and his team at I&K has really bowled us over and the total they have raised is most definitely beyond our wildest expectations; I’d like to thank everyone associated with the car dealership for their support throughout the year.

“The number plate will be a lovely keepsake of what has been a fabulous year for CLAN in which so many people have come together to help mark our special birthday.”
