CLAN Cancer Support

CLAN Cancer Support will host a women’s wellbeing evening this summer as the north-east charity highlights its range of services and plans for the future.

The open night on Wednesday, July 2, at CLAN House in Aberdeen will include sessions on nutrition, post-surgery lingerie fitting as well as support and information tailored to support anyone affected by cancer.

The wellbeing event will also enable CLAN to gather feedback on its existing provision to help shape its services, which include a variety of therapies as well as counselling and support groups.

A number of CLAN volunteers and therapists will be present on the day, sharing their own experiences and knowledge.

Chris McKay is volunteering with the charity, having previously benefited from the support provided by CLAN following her own cancer diagnosis in 2009.

She said: “I know that when I first visited CLAN House there was an enormous sense of reassurance. People understood the emotions I was facing and really put me at ease. Whether it is simply a case of looking for a listening ear or for the wealth of different therapies and services available, every individual is able to access what is right for them.

“Having first visited CLAN during my own treatment, I am pleased to be able to give something back through the groups I have been involved in. The wellbeing event will give an insight to what CLAN can offer but just as importantly we hope to be able to gather ideas and opinions which will help plan for the future.”

The event will run from 7pm at CLAN House on Westburn Road, Aberdeen, and will focus on nutrition, wellbeing, post-surgery prosthesis, post-surgery lingerie fitting services for every budget, therapies and treatments. Estelle Robb, who operates CLAN’s specialist salon, will also be on hand to talk about services including hair and wig styling.

Lucy Whiteman, CLAN services manager, said: “We offer a wide range of support helping people live with and beyond cancer. The wellbeing event has been designed to encourage women to come along to find out what’s available, get some useful tips and to boost confidence.

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.
