Walkers don a touch of tartan for CLAN
Nearly 100 walkers came together last Saturday (May, 10) to take part in a CLAN Cancer Support's Tartan Trek.
The event, organised by CLAN Cancer Support, saw walkers from all over the north-east complete either a 6km or 15km route throughout the picturesque Glen Gelder on Balmoral Estate.
Led off from Crathie by the Ballater Pipe Band, the intrepid group bravely battled the weather to finish the route in the shadow of the stunning Balmoral Castle before returning to Crathie for a well-deserved cup of tea and homebake.
The event itself is in its fifth year and aims to raise awareness of the services CLAN provides in the Deeside area to those affected by cancer alongside raising funds that will help enable this provision of free support to continue.
Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, was delighted with the turn out. She said: “This is the fifth year the walk has been held and I’d like to thank the people of Deeside and the surrounding area who continue to support the event, despite the weather doing its best to put people off!
“It really is a sight to see when the group arrive at Balmoral Castle and we’re delighted that nearly 100 walkers were able to join us on the day - their generosity, both in helping raise awareness and funds, is greatly appreciated by all associated with the charity. This fantastic support helps ensure that CLAN can continue to provide its free support services in Deeside.”
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity. It is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm in Ballater offering a drop-in service, complementary therapies and counselling as well as a monthly support group and health walk. CLAN also operates a charity shop within the town.
