Professor Nicolson said: “While a consultant oncologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, I was impressed with the support and benefits that many of my patients enjoyed through attending CLAN. It is my pleasure and privilege to become a member of the Board of this charity that offers so much to people throughout the north-east of Scotland.’

Dr Colette Backwell, chief executive of CLAN Cancer Support, added “CLAN, as a charity that provides highly valued, professional cancer support services to 2500 people affected by cancer every year, attracts high calibre individuals to its board.

“Professor Nicolson’s extensive history of cancer treatment and her expertise in the field of cancer research will be of significant help to the board and the organisation as a whole.

“Our board members all give their time and expertise freely, for which we are very grateful, and I am looking forward to working closely with Marianne and utilising her skills and experience to ensure that CLAN continues to lead the way in cancer support services across the north-east, Orkney and Shetland.”
