Clan’s Orkney centre is launching new services and a support group to help people of all ages who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

From September 2 Clan will offer Reflexology and Reiki treatments at its wellbeing centre in Kirkwall to help alleviate some of the physical and emotional side effects that can accompany a cancer journey.

The complementary therapies are recognised by the NHS and can work alongside traditional cancer treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The charity is also launching a new monthly Women’s Group from next Thursday, September 5, at its Orkney centre. The group aims to support women of all ages who are impacted, either directly or indirectly through a friend or relative, by cancer.

Karen Farquhar, Clan’s Orkney area services coordinator, said: “We are pleased to announce our new support group and complementary therapies from our Kirkwall centre which we hope will be useful to anyone who is dealing with, or helping someone through, a diagnosis.

“Cancer often doesn’t come on its own – it can bring physical and emotional complications. Clan gives people the opportunity to process what they’re going through, to build their own resilience and nurture their wellbeing during what can be a difficult time.

“We know the impact of cancer can be felt throughout the support system of the person with the diagnosis which is why our new complementary therapies and support group are accessible to cancer patients and their loved ones, as all our services are.

“We’d encourage anyone dealing with a diagnosis to get in touch with us for free support and more information on the services we offer.”

Clan will be delivering reflexology and reiki treatments on a regular basis from Monday, September 2.

The complementary therapies are delivered by fully trained therapists and an assessment is carried out on all new clients to determine the suitability of treatments.

Clan’s Woman’s Group will launch on Thursday, September 5 from 10.30am – 12.30pm and will run on the first Thursday of the month thereafter.
