Meet Claire Mechie

Claire Mechie

At Clan, we have our team of superheroes who make it their mission to support clients in any way they can. We spoke our new Volunteer Coordinator, Claire Mechie, to get to know one of the many superheroes who have the power to help.

Tell us a bit about yourself, who you are, where have you come from?

Hi! I'm Claire, I was born and raised in Stonehaven and have spent most of my working life in and around Aberdeen. In my spare time, I enjoy seeing friends and spending time with my family. I am dog-Mum to our very large Goldendoodle, Yogi and we love taking him on lots of adventures! I also enjoy the occasional round of golf when the opportunity arises!

What made you want to work for Clan?

I wanted to work in a role with ‘real world’ impact. Having volunteered with Clan previously, I was aware of the vital work carried out to support those affected by cancer.

I am delighted to be part of such a great team, that carries out such important work throughout the North-East and beyond.

How did you end up in this line of work?

For a while now, I have wanted to work with a charitable organisation that makes a positive difference to the lives of others. When I saw the Volunteer Coordinator role advertised with Clan, I thought it would be an exciting new adventure and would allow me to expand upon my existing skills and expertise. I am really excited to be working with Clan’s team of Listening Support Volunteers and further developing the volunteer programme going forward.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I can bellydance – not something I do much of these days, but it’s great exercise!

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little, I really wanted to be a vet – but the animal allergy stopped that dream becoming a reality.

I am very much an animal-lover and would have a houseful of pets if I could! Yogi thankfully hasn’t caused me any allergic reactions to date!

Who is your hero?

I have a few heroes – namely my Grandparents and my Parents (sounds naff but it’s true!). They have been my role models and my biggest supporters in everything I’ve done.

Can you give us two truths and one lie about yourself?

  1. I don’t have any tattoos
  2. I play the ukulele
  3. I love seafood

I absolutely do not love seafood!
