Guest speaker for CLAN in Deeside

CLAN Cancer Support will next week welcome a guest speaker to its monthly meet in Deeside who will give an insight into one of the charity’s newest support groups.

CLAN Cancer Support will welcome Chris McKay who will give a short talk on its pre/post-surgery breast cancer support group at the meeting on Wednesday, June 4, from 4pm to 5.30pm, at St Ternan’s Episcopal Church, High Street in Banchory.

Chris, one of two women who lead the recently formed group at CLAN House in Aberdeen, will also share some of her own experiences of cancer as well as offering support and help on the practicalities of wearing breast prosthesis and lingerie.

Gemma Powell, CLAN’s Aberdeenshire area service co-ordinator, said: “Our monthly meets in Deeside are usually held in Ballater but as CLAN continues to grow its offering across the area, we’ve decided to hold the next meeting in Banchory and we’re delighted to welcome Chris along to the group.

“Chris leads CLAN’s new pre/post-surgery breast cancer support group and the meeting will be a perfect way for ladies in Banchory and the surrounding area to learn more about how CLAN may be able to help.”

Next week also marks the first anniversary of CLAN providing free support services in Banchory after it established a presence within the town in May last year. The drop-in centre, which is located within the Centenary Hall in Banchory, is open on Thursdays from 10am to 4pm, offering a range of complementary therapies as well as counselling by appointment.

Gemma added: “The support that CLAN has had from people in Banchory and the surrounding area has been fantastic and this really has helped us in our goal of allowing our range of free services to be accessible in the heart of the Deeside community.

“I’d like to thank those who have supported CLAN in the last year as we look ahead to continuing this in the coming months and beyond.”
