Emergency services and CLAN to be recognised at a unique ball.
The valuable work of the north-east emergency services is set to be recognised at a unique ball.
Attendees will get the chance to show their appreciation of the region’s fire, police, and ambulance crews at the special ‘Bravehearts Ball’ bash which will take place on Friday, March 6, at Thainstone House Hotel in Inverurie.
The evening, which will be medieval themed and will include a dinner and dance, stilt walkers, jesters and a live auction, is the brainchild of Huntly-based ambulance technician Irene Cooper.
In February 2012, Irene found herself in the unfamiliar position of requiring help, instead of providing it after she was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer and secondary lymphatic cancer.
Throughout the following year, Irene underwent various different treatments which included chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery and it was during this time the work of north-east cancer charity CLAN Cancer Support was brought to her attention.
Throughout her diagnosis, Irene’s thoughts turned straight to the well-being of her family, in particular her daughter Beth and the two began attending counselling sessions with the charity.
Irene and her family still receive support today from CLAN, with Irene now in a stage of remission from her treatment. To say thank you to the charity, all proceeds from the Bravehearts Ball will be donated to CLAN.
Irene explained: “People who work for the emergency services tirelessly do their best for other people and I really wanted to create a night that individuals can get together as a team in order to celebrate themselves and their work in society. The only time we seem to meet each other is on the job, at RTCs and such like so it’ll be great to spend some time together outside of work.
“The ball is open to everyone, not just those who work within the emergency services with all proceeds on the night being donated to CLAN Cancer Support. During my diagnosis and subsequent treatment, CLAN helped me to live my life and appreciate myself as an individual. The charity was also a rock of support for my 8-year-old daughter Beth and without CLAN’s help I’d still be struggling to come to terms with my illness.
“I’m now nine months and counting in remission and I want to say thank you to this wonderful charity as well as shine a spotlight on the work of the emergency services. The night is shaping up to be a cracking event and will be a wonderful opportunity for us all to meet one another and show our ‘brave’ hearts.

Tickets for the evening cost £40 per person and include food, entertainment and cup of mead on arrival. Raffle prizes are also being accepted.
