Commemorative cake helps to mark CLAN’s 30th Anniversary

A commemorative birthday cake baked in Stonehaven has helped mark a leading north-east cancer support charity’s 30th anniversary.

The cake was produced to mark CLAN Cancer Support’s 30th birthday on Wednesday, September 25 where clients, volunteers and CLAN personnel were able to enjoy a piece at the charity’s CLAN House on Westburn Road in Aberdeen.

The cake was made by Stonehaven resident Bee McNaught, HR administrator with the charity and Steph Dowling, a member of CLAN’s fundraising team and was a product of weeks of planning and over 15 hours of baking time.

Debbie Thomson, CLAN’s chief executive, said: “Bee and Steph first came up with the idea of the cake when we were thinking about unique and different ways to help mark CLAN’s 30th anniversary. They are both keen bakers and thought that it would be a good idea to come up with a cake that was representative of the impressive milestone that the charity has achieved.

“It certainly was a labour of love with over 6kg of fondant icing used, 8 layers of cake baked and 30 marzipan people moulded, representing 30 years of CLAN. It was a great way for members of our team to play their part in what has been a special month for the charity.”

In Stonehaven, CLAN is open four days a week, offering a drop-in service, complementary therapies, counselling and access to CLAN’s children and family support services. The Robert Street premises are open Monday (6pm-8.30pm), Wednesday (10am-1.30pm), Tuesday and Thursday (10am-4pm) as well as a fortnightly relaxation class on a Monday morning.
