CLAN welcomes retail expert to its Board

CLAN Cancer Support has announced the appointment of retail expert Jackie Allen to its board at its annual general meeting on Thursday (November 28).

Jackie brings with her an extensive knowledge of the retail sector having established and operated the popular fashion boutique The B’s Knees in Oldmeldrum and Inverurie for 25 years before becoming an independent business consultant early in 2012.

Alongside this, Jackie is currently a Retail Consultant and an advisor to the Business Gateway as part of the Survive and Thrive Programme, helping to provide practical advice and support to businesses looking to grow. She also holds the position of Chairman of the Inverurie Business Association.

With CLAN’s network of charity shops now encompassing Aberdeen, Ballater, Orkney and Shetland, Jackie will be looking to use her expertise to maximise opportunities in these areas. She said: “CLAN is a wonderful charity that does so much great work for anyone affected by cancer and I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the board. I’m really looking forward to playingmy part in the future of the charity.

“Being entrepreneurial by nature, I’m always looking for new challenges in different sectors and I’m passionate about passing on as much help and advice as I can. With CLAN’s spread of charity shops continuing to play a vital role in its fundraising activities, I’m really looking forward to working with the team that’s in place to help grow the chain even further.”

Robbie Duncan, chairman of CLAN, said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Jackie and I speak for us all here at CLAN in saying that it’s a great asset to the charity to have someone with her experience and expertise on-board.

“With new services in Moray and the north-east being launched this year, CLAN continues to grow and Jackie’s appointment very much reflects this expansion. All our board members provide their time on a voluntary basis and I look forward to continuing to work with them all to help maintain the charity’s position as a leader in the provision of free support services for anyone affected by cancer.”
