CLAN Scoops Prize At Elgin Town Centre Business Awards

A leading north-east cancer support charity has had its work in Moray recognised at a distinguished business awards ceremony.

CLAN Cancer Support came out top in the charity, voluntary and community group category at the recent Elgin Town Centre Business Awards which was held at the Beechtree Restaurant at Moray College on Wednesday (October 07).

The awards, organised by Elgin BID (Business Improvement District), are voted by the public with the charity praised for its work within Moray through its support and wellbeing centre in Elgin.

Established in 2013, CLAN’s base in Elgin offers a variety of complementary therapies, social and wellbeing activities, as well as a dedicated children and family support service. Alongside this, a men’s group meets every Tuesday evening at 5.30pm as well as on the first Thursday of each month from 10am to 12pm. A ladies group meets on the fourth Friday of the month, from 2pm to 4pm. The centre operates from premises at 227 High Street five days a week.

The charity has also provided a free support and information service from Lossiemouth’s Moray Coast Medical Practice since March, with two support volunteers available for both appointments and drop-ins every Thursday from 1pm to 4pm.

Tracy Sellar, CLAN’s Moray area co-ordinator, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to collect this award at what has established itself as an important event in the business calendar in Elgin.

“Over the last two years, we’ve been working tirelessly to help establish CLAN within the town and surrounding region and this award is testament to the hard work and determination shown by all CLAN employees, volunteers, fundraisers and supporters in helping make the charity and its services such a success.

“The warmth shown by the people of Moray towards CLAN never fails to amaze us and we look forward to continuing to grow our presence within the region in the months and year ahead.”
