A leading north-east charity is hosting an open event in Aberdeen this weekend to mark World Cancer Day.
CLAN Cancer Support is using the day, which falls on Saturday (February 04), as an opportunity to highlight the variety of services it provides, and reach out to people who may not be aware of the support that is available locally for anyone affected by cancer.
World Cancer Day unites the world’s population in the fight against cancer and aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease.
CLAN will welcome West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP Stuart Donaldson to CLAN House on Saturday, where he will be given a tour of the facility and have the opportunity to meet CLAN staff.
Representatives from the charity’s Children and Family Services team and wellbeing services will be on hand to answer questions from visitors, and information about how you can make a difference through volunteering will also be available at the event from 10am to 12 noon.
Dr Colette Backwell, chief executive of CLAN, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Stuart Donaldson and showing him the variety of support services that we provide within CLAN House and at our bases throughout the north-east.
“From our range of wellbeing services, salon and nutritional advice to our dedicated children, teens and family service and CLAN Haven, along with everything that comes in-between, CLAN offers an increasing range of services to address the growing needs of our clients.
“The theme for World Cancer Day is “we can, I can” which reflects CLAN well. We as a charity can help give people the support and tools they need as they navigate a cancer diagnosis.
“We want people to know that if they need support and advice, it is available and we are here to help in whatever way we can. Representatives from our wide range of services will be available on Saturday to answer any questions and provide signposting to the services available locally.
“We would like to invite anyone affected by cancer in any way to come along, join us for a coffee, and find out a bit more about how we can help and also how people can help us through volunteering.”
Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Buckie, Elgin, Buckie, Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Lossiemouth, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
