Clan is inviting the Shetland community to have its say on the support needed for local people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
The charity relaunched its Shetland wellbeing centre in November 2025 with a new staff team and volunteers.
More than 50 guests attended a launch event at the charity’s Shetland base at the Islesburgh Centre on King Harald Street, Lerwick to hear about the cancer support services offered.
Attendees had the opportunity to take part in a survey to evaluate the needs for different services within the Shetland community, ensuring that anyone impacted by a cancer diagnosis can access the support they require.
The survey remains open for members of the general public to complete, with the charity aiming to use the responses to inform its service provision in the coming months.
Kay Johnston, Clan’s head of cancer support services, said: “Clan’s mission is to empower people of all ages to navigate a cancer journey by providing first class emotional and physical support services, completely free of charge.
“We know different communities have different needs which is why we want to make sure we’re getting it right in Shetland. We want to understand how local people want to access support and what that support looks like.
“We’d encourage the Shetland community to take part in our online survey and give us their honest feedback. This will allow us to ensure we are there for those in Shetland who need us, whether they are going through a diagnosis themselves or supporting a loved one through a cancer journey.”
Clan provides emotional and physical support for people of all ages who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis, with services within its Islesburgh centre including listening support, complementary therapies and the charity’s children and families service.
Clan’s Islesburgh Centre is open from 10am – 4pm from Monday – Thursday throughout 2026. The charity will also continue to offer an outreach service on Whalsay on the last Monday of every month.
The online survey takes approximately five minutes to complete and will remain open until January 31, 2026. You can access the survey here.
