CLAN hopes to bag more support
CLAN Cancer Support is urging retailers to consider them when donating proceeds from the recently introduced carrier bag charge.
All shops are now required to charge a minimum of 5p for each single-use carrier bag and have the option to give the money to worthy causes.
CLAN is hoping retailers throughout the north-east will throw their support behind the charity- which has also launched its own range of stylish shopper bags.
Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “We would be absolutely delighted if retailers would consider donating proceeds from the Carrier Bag Charge to CLAN. It really is a great opportunity for shops and charities to create new links, while also helping us raise much needed funds.
“In return, we are able to provide retailers with a poster which tells customers about the new regulation, and that the shop is supporting CLAN. We will also provide a certificate of appreciation that can be displayed on the premises.”
Retailers can also lend a hand to CLAN by stocking and selling their purple printed shopper bag, which is to be sold for a recommended donation of £3, or their jute bag, for a donation of £5.
Susan Crighton added: “Our new range of shopping bags are perfect for storing in your handbag or in your car for when you go shopping. They are available from any CLAN base or charity shop and have proved popular so far.”
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
