CLAN ‘Feeling Better, Feeling Positive’ Programme Returns to Peterhead

A leading cancer charity is launching the second in a series of specialist programmes to help people currently going through a cancer diagnosis.

CLAN Cancer Support is hosting the eight-week ‘Feeling Better, Feeling Positive’ programme following the success of the first block of sessions towards the end of 2016.

The programme received funding from Aberdeenshire Council as part of the Health and Social Care Partnership, which was voted for and chosen by people living in central Peterhead.

The eight week project covers self-help techniques, helping people to feel more positive during their cancer journey. Sessions also cover nutrition, styling, relaxation and self-help techniques.

Taking place at CLAN Peterhead, 1 Carter’s Close, Peterhead, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, the first session focuses on neurological therapy and self-help techniques to encourage positive mental attitude.

Iona Mitchell, CLAN’s Services Manager, said: “We were delighted to receive the funding from Aberdeenshire Council to allow us to develop this programme which is tailored to the wide ranging needs of someone with a cancer diagnosis.

“The programme aims to provide people with support and information to deal with the physical and psychological changes they may be experiencing. For example, many of our female clients tell us that changes to their hair or appearance can have a huge effect on their day to day lives. By showing them how to style themselves, encouraging them to wear colours they might not have considered, can really help to increase someone’s confidence.”
