Clan has recruited a new children and family services practitioner to work in its Orkney centre as the charity looks to support more local young people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Demand for the charity’s Children and Family Services (CFS) in Orkney has grown in the last year, prompting the recruitment of a dedicated role within the Kirkwall Centre.

Clan, which provides emotional and physical support services to people of all ages impacted by a cancer diagnosis has previously provided digital support to young people and their families in Orkney.

The charity has now appointed Charlotte Milne to the Orkney centre who brings more than 20 years of experience in working with young people and families in a variety of settings including education and residential care.

Naomi Murdo, Clan’s Children and Family Services team leader, said: “We are pleased to welcome Charlotte to our team to ensure children and young people from age four to 21, living in Orkney can access in person support when dealing with a cancer diagnosis for themselves or a loved one.

“Clan has the expertise to support whole families impacted by cancer from pre-diagnosis through to remission or post bereavement and sadly we’re seeing an increase for these services.

“With Charlotte now in post, we’d like to encourage those who may know a young person who could benefit from Clan’s support to reach out to us, either by using the referral form on our website or by contacting the Kirkwall centre directly.”

Charlotte will be based at Clan’s Kirkwall centre at 30 Victoria Street from Monday – Wednesday, with the centre open to clients from 10am – 4pm Monday to Thursday.

Referrals for Clan’s Children and Family Services can be made by professionals and family members by using the referral form on Clan’s website or contacting the team directly by calling 01856873393 or emailing [email protected]
