Clan Cancer Support is appealing for volunteers to support local people impacted by cancer across its communities.
The charity is currently seeking volunteers to offer its vital listening and support service which enables people impacted by a diagnosis to speak to someone about their cancer journey.
This volunteering opportunity is available throughout Clan centres in Aberdeen, Elgin and Orkney.
The charity also needs retail volunteers to support its Rosemount shop and a new boutique charity shop for children which is due to open in Banchory this spring.
Driver volunteers are further required in Moray to support the charity’s transport service which runs daily to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary using Clan’s hybrid vehicle.
Clan recommends that volunteers commit to a minimum of three and a half hours of time per week.
Driver volunteers are required to have a full clean driving licence and have flexible availability, with their hours determined by pre-arranged medical appointments.
No other experience is required for any of the advertised opportunities with all training provided by the charity.
Pamela Fenton, Clan’s volunteer co-ordinator said: “You don’t need to be a cancer expert to be a volunteer with Clan. You do need to be a good listener and to give your time. In return you’ll get training and the opportunity to play an important role in your local cancer support charity.
“The benefits of volunteering can be felt by the charity and the volunteer - volunteering can provide work experience, new friendships and the opportunity to develop new skills which can enrich your working and personal life.”
Successful applicants in Aberdeen, Banchory and Elgin will be invited to attend a two-day training course in Aberdeen ahead of taking on their new voluntary positions.
Orkney applicants are encouraged to attend an open day event at Clan’s Kirkwall centre from 10am – 2pm on Saturday, March 1 to find out more about the opportunities available, including helping out at the charities upcoming Monument Midnight Walk in June this year.
Training for successful applicants in Orkney will take place in Kirkwall. Clan provides emotional and physical support for people of all ages who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis with the charity providing more than 10,000 support sessions to clients in the last year.
Pamela added; “Volunteers play a crucial role in everything we do at Clan and we are indebted to them. Their dedication enables us to provide first class support services to local people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.”
