A Banchory based cancer support group is holding its first fundraising event this November.

Friends of CLAN Deeside, which formed in August, will join forces with Forget Me Not Club (FMNC) Banchory to hold a Christmas Craft Fair at Banchory Scout Hut on 23 November 2019.

Showcasing local crafts, gifts and home bakes, the event is being held to raise money for cancer support in Banchory as well as dementia support in the community.

The Christmas fair will also feature Albacappella, a local barbershop chorus which will sing its repertoire of Christmas carols and songs, and musical entertainment from Banchory Academy.

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. The CLAN centre in Posties Walk, Banchory, offers a weekly support and information service as well as access to a range of complementary therapies, free of charge.

Mike Wilson from Friends of CLAN Deeside said: “We are delighted to be joining forces with Forget Me Not for our first joint fundraising event. Like Forget Me Not, CLAN is able to support people locally, with dedicated staff and services for people in Deeside.

“Providing services in the community is important for us all. People affected by cancer do not necessarily want to go into Aberdeen for support. Finding counselling and wellbeing services on your doorstep can make a huge difference when you are feeling unwell.

“We are lucky to have CLAN and Forget Me Not in the village, and we hope everyone will come along to the Christmas Craft Fair to show their support and get their Christmas shopping off to a festive start.”

Eunice Gardyne from FMNC said:” It will be a great honour for FMNC to come together with CLAN for our first joint fundraiser, allowing us to raise awareness locally of the services we both provide whilst also raising funds.

“The Christmas fair will hopefully allow families who may be new to the area find out about the fantastic support FMNC provides within the community, not only to people living with dementia but also their families and carers too.

“We hope everyone will be able to start (or finish) their Christmas shopping whilst enjoying a glass of mulled wine along the way”

The Christmas Craft Fair takes place on Saturday 23 November, from 10am-2pm at Banchory Scout Hut. Tickets are £5 on the door, with free entry for children.
