Call For New ‘Friends of CLAN’ Volunteers

A north-east cancer support charity has appealed for new volunteers to help with fundraising events in Aberdeenshire and Moray.

CLAN Cancer Support is seeking individuals in Crimond, Elgin and Inverurie to help establish new Friends of CLAN groups, which offer vital support to the charity across the north-east and Moray.

An open evening will be held in each community this autumn where attendees will hear from members of the CLAN team, including, CLAN’s area coordinator, members of the fundraising team, and Head of Income Generation and Business Development, Fiona Fernie.

The new groups will meet regularly to plan and deliver a programme of events which will raise funds for CLAN and raise awareness of the organisation.

Each of CLAN’s open evenings will start at 7.30pm and be held at the following locations:

  • CLAN Crimond, Crimond Medical and Community Hub on Tuesday, September 25
  • CLAN Elgin, 227 High Street, Elgin on Thursday, September 27
  • CLAN Inverurie, Burnside Court, Inverurie on Wednesday, October 3.

Fiona Fernie said: “We have a fantastic team of volunteers who do a great job organising CLAN fundraising events throughout the year and provide crucial support to our teams across the north-east of Scotland and beyond.

“It’s important we continue to build these networks and we aim to establish new Friends of CLAN groups in Crimond, Elgin and Inverurie with people who have a strong local knowledge and are keen to make a difference in their community.

“Being part of a Friends of CLAN group is good fun, and it’s not a commitment heavy role. They can be formed with a small core of people who are enthusiastic, committed and enjoy team work.

“We provide excellent support to all our volunteers and new members of the team will be given the assistance they need to enjoy their volunteering experience with us. We will help them gain new skills, grow in confidence and become a vital part of our links with local communities.”
