Add a spot of vintage to your special day with CLAN

Tapping into the demand for all things vintage has proved a piece of cake for CLAN Cancer Support – with its novel idea of hiring out retro tea sets proving a major success.

With the help of its charity shops, CLAN has amassed a number of vintage teacups and saucers, cake stands, milk jugs and sugar bowls and is encouraging people who wish to add a spot of nostalgia to their party to use the pieces in return for a small donation.

The eye catching range, which can cater for nearly 150 people, has already been used for a number of different events including weddings, baby showers and afternoon teas and has proved popular with those who enjoy the feel good factor associated with a vintage theme.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “Our charity shops helped pull together nearly 200 sets of teacups, saucers and side plates for our Christmas Cracker ball in 2012 and they went down so well with those who attended that we decided to keep them to hire out for future events.

“Throughout last year and the start of this year, the uptake in people hiring the pieces has been fantastic and we’ve seen them being used at weddings, baby showers and even hen parties all across the north-east of Scotland. We recently had 120 sets at the Friends of Anchor Courage on the Catwalk event and we’d encourage event organisers to get in touch for more information on the range.

“There are a number of quality pieces within the range and we find that they really do add something special to an event. The vintage trend shows no sign of diminishing and our tea sets are a great way to help your event stand out from the norm.”

CLAN’s corporate gifts and wedding favours service has also gathered pace within the last six months. For a small donation, the charity can supply a range of table gifts which includes a trolley key ring, pin badge, pen as well as a card with a personalised message. The unique offering has struck a chord with event organisers within the north-east, with a number using the gifts to both decorate the tables and increase the awareness of CLAN and the work it does.

Susan Crighton continued: “The gifts and wedding favours offer something different to the usual table decorations and the awareness we receive from people using them really is fantastic.

“It’s great that people can support us alongside looking after their guests and we’ve found that the practical items are extremely popular. We’d be delighted to discuss this further with anyone who is interested.”
