FAQ's

Passion is key, we can tell you or teach you the rest. An understanding of the charity is clearly an advantage, however it is not essential. What we really need is an individual who can speak with conviction about the difference that Clan makes to people’s lives in our communities and encourage people to support us, be that through fundraising or awareness.

Due to the nature of the role and the types of activities that may be required, it is requested that Clan Ambassadors are over the age of 18.

We encourage applications from people who come from a diverse range of backgrounds, to represent the community that we serve. An ambassador may be someone who can lend their skills or knowledge to the charity, as well as gifting their time to support specific activities in their area.

How often you gift us your time is dependent entirely on your personal circumstances alongside the needs of the charity. This is a flexible role to suit your availability, however Clan requires a minimum of 3 years’ commitment. Rolling tenures will always be considered upon discussion.

People choose to share their cancer stories and experiences all the time. The role of a Clan Ambassador may involve dealing with difficult situations. It is our responsibility to ensure you have the relevant training and support to enable you to fulfil your role and have a rewarding volunteering experience.

Clan takes the safety of our staff, volunteers, and clients very seriously. As an Ambassador you will receive:

  • A full induction to Clan to introduce you to the charity, your role and key stakeholders across the organisation.
  • A Volunteer Training programme, including Listening and Support Training and Safeguarding awareness.
  • Shadowing sessions across Clan’s Services Team and corporate functions.
  • A named contact in your area, who will provide you with any ongoing support and guidance you require to fulfil your role.
  • The equipment and information necessary to carry out your role.
  • Ongoing training, supervision, development opportunities and wellbeing support.

Please Note: Due to the nature of Clan’s work, this role is considered a regulated activity and requires membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, which will be applied for on your behalf by Clan.

Clan will ensure the cost of PVG’s are covered by making the application on your behalf.

Clan will also ensure the reimbursement of any expenses incurred whilst volunteering in accordance with our Volunteer Expenses Policy, should you wish to claim for these.

The activity you are involved with will determine the dress code. Ambassadors will usually be asked to wear a Clan t-shirt and ID badge, but more formal events may require black tie or evening wear.

Volunteering as Ambassador can be hugely rewarding:

  • You would be volunteering with a renowned local organisation that is leading the way in cancer support services for clients across the north of Scotland and the Northern Isles.
  • You will meet new people and widen your personal and professional networks.
  • You will gain a sense of pride and satisfaction from making a valuable difference to a local organisation.
  • You will develop your current skills to enhance your CV or, get the chance to work with young people who can learn from your experience and knowledge.
  • Clan will act as a referee for you following successful completion of your role.
  • You will receive regular communication from Clan.
  • You will receive a copy of Clan’s Annual Report highlighting successes from the previous 12 months.
  • You will receive an invitation to the annual Ambassador Gathering, hosted as part of our AGM.
